The Buisness Grows, Others Speak

Back Mountain Music Therapy, The Heyward Rooms has moved and grown. We are hosting our 4th intern now and have had 4 subcontractors in the last 3-4 years. The business has stretched its wings, and although we have written mostly about autism, we have always worked with populations with needs beyond the spectrum. It has been very difficult to continue to write and work as both the business and I have continued to grow and educate itself and others. However, now there are more to help. This week, we will be introducing our new Intern Madison Indyk, a graduate from Marywood University. You will be hearing more from Madison throughout the year. Her introduction is just a little bit about why she chose Music Therapy as a career:

Why I Chose Music Therapy

Ever since I can remember, music has been an important part of my life. In first grade, I was caught singing a song that we were taught during independent working time in my classroom. From that moment on, I can recall lots of great musical memories that I’ve had throughout my life so far. Music is a very big aspect of my life. I have always wanted to share my passion for music with others, because I feel that music is enhanced when it is shared with others.

Along with my love for music, I have always enjoyed being able to help others.  When picking a career path, I wanted to make sure that I was in a helping profession. I wanted to choose a career path that allowed me to feel inspired by the people that I am surrounded by.

I feel like Music Therapy “came to me” in a way. As I was touring colleges, I heard about Music Therapy and my ears perked up. I did lots of research on it and knew that this was the path that I needed to follow in my life. I loved that I could use holistic approaches to help clients. I was eager to be able to put together my passion for music and serving others. I chose Music Therapy as a career because I thought if music has always had such a great impact in my own life, I would love to be able to use this as a tool to help others with various needs of their own. I chose Music Therapy because I was once told that if you are doing something that you love to do as a career you will never feel like you are working a day in your life.

I am grateful to be able to have chose this field as my career path and I am excited to learn and grow as a Music Therapist while interning here at Back Mountain Music Therapy!
